Watch: Donald Trump is at war with the press and First Amendment
Donald Trump has granted legitimacy to the idea of “fake news,” as dictators and foreign adversaries use it to censor media, attack journalists, sabotage political opponents, and deceive their citizens.
Leaders like Bashar al-Assad of Syria, Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippine, and Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela and the governments of Myanmar and Cambodia, as well as other government arms like the Russian foreign ministry and Chinese state media, have following Trump’s lead in using the term “fake news” to go after real news.
Trump seems to want to do the same.
Attacking the Press
Trump has repeatedly attacked the press, and promises he will continue. This is a violation of the 1st Amendment of the Constitution, and a sign of authoritarianism
