On October 13 and 14, thousands of Need to Impeach supporters will engage infrequent voters in key congressional districts

(SAN FRANCISCO, October 12, 2018)—Need to Impeach supporters will host over 100 “Flip the House” events across the country on Oct. 13-14 as part of a “Weekend of Action” intended to reach and encourage infrequent midterm voters to turn out to vote on Nov. 6.

As part of the “Flip the House” events planned in 19 states and the District of Columbia, event-goers will be asked to write personal note cards to those who do not regularly vote during midterm elections and who live in key districts that are needed to secure a House victory. States where events are planned include Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington.

“With less than four weeks left before the midterm elections, we’re using every minute we have to help ensure that each and every one of our supporters show up to vote on Election Day— especially in districts and races that will likely be very close,” said Need to Impeach Lead Strategist Kevin Mack. “This is one of the most important elections in our lifetime, and we’re going to fight every step of the way to secure victories up and down ballots.”

Need to Impeach launched its get out the vote initiative—called Need to Vote—in August, with a $10 million investment from founder Tom Steyer to reach and mobilize the 64 percent of its 6 million members who are infrequent midterm voters. An organizing team is now working in districts across the country to engage supporters and mobilize infrequent voters at “Flip the House” events and through strategies uniquely created to engage and mobilize them. Strategies include a notecard campaign that has generated more than 1.4 million notecards, hundreds of digitals ads served on Facebook and Youtube, addressable TV ads airing in specific regions, and digital outreach.

Steyer launched the Need to Impeach campaign on October 20, 2017, through national television and social media ads. More than 6 million people signed on to support the campaign in its first year, creating a digital army that several political strategists call one of the most powerful political tools in the Democratic party. So far, 15 national commercials—including two in Spanish—have aired, reaching more than two billion television viewers and more than 454 million people through social media.
