(SAN FRANCISCO, March 13, 2018)—Need to Impeach Founder Tom Steyer released the following statement regarding Donald Trump’s visit to California today. Trump is scheduled to review border wall prototypes in the San Diego area and attend a fundraiser in Beverly Hills.

“The people of California need to send Donald Trump a loud and clear message during his visit: Your ideas and values are not welcome here. We have no tolerance for the racist rhetoric, ignorant policies, and divisive politics that have defined his presidency since he entered the Oval Office. Instead of highlighting the state’s many achievements in technology, policy, and environment, Trump is here to focus on his administration’s efforts to tear families apart and destroy the economies of countless communities living along the border. As he spouts ignorant attacks on the state’s elected leaders and our immigrant neighbors, Californians will remember how the racist agenda of ex-Governor Pete Wilson drove the state GOP into irrelevance.

I am proud of the work our state has done to drive the nation’s economy and promote progressive values. As long as Trump is in the White House, California will remain the soul of the resistance, leading the country to build a just economy, reject his divisiveness, and call forhis impeachment.”

This week, Steyer embarks on a series of town halls across the country to make the patriotic case for Trump’s impeachment. The 30 town halls will kick off with two events in Ohio, followed by events in the Washington D.C. area on March 20. Other upcoming events will be held in New York on April 2, Oakland, CA on April 11, and Atlanta on April 19. The campaign will soon announce additional trips to Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Minnesota, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin.

Steyer launched the Need to Impeach campaign on October 20, 2017 through national television and social media ads. More than 5 million people have since signed on to support the campaign, creating a digital army that several political strategists call one of the most powerful political tools in the Democratic party. So far, six national commercials have aired, reaching more than 2 billion viewers through television and more than 454 million through social media. A seventh commercial—the first in Spanish—will begin airing nationwide this week.
