Steyer to discuss Donald Trump offenses against our country and demand local elected officials support Rep. Al Green’s Impeachment Resolution

(DENVER, May 8, 2018)—Need to Impeach Founder Tom Steyer is bringing the case to remove Donald Trump from office to Colorado, where he will host a town hall—part of his nationwide, 30 town hall series—in Denver on May 16.

Since March, Steyer has been holding the town hall series across the country. Steyer has hosted events in Ohio, the Washington D.C. area, Oakland, Atlanta, and Orlando, to make the patriotic case to Democrats, Independents, and Republicans about the need for impeaching Trump, and to question why elected leaders in Colorado and across the country ignore the clear mandate from their constituents.

According to a recent Quinnipiac poll, 70 percent of Democrats support impeaching Trump, yet two of the three Democratic members of Congress representing Colorado—Diana DeGette (Denver) and Ed Perlmutter (Lakewood)—voted against Representative Al Green’s impeachment resolution earlier this year. The Colorado representative that voted in favor of impeachment was Jared Polis (Boulder).

“With every day that goes by, Donald Trump erodes our democracy,” said Steyer. “We need strong leaders in Congress who are not afraid to stand up to him and represent the will of the people who put them in office. Those who condemn Trump but do not back their words with action are enabling the damage he is inflicting on our country. Colorado representatives who voted against Rep. Green’s resolution should explain why they are acting against their constituents’ wishes by voting no on impeachment. The people of Colorado deserve elected leaders who refuse to back down on our shared principles.”

Steyer launched the Need to Impeach campaign on October 20, 2017 through national television and social media ads. More than 5.2 million people have since signed on to support the campaign, creating a digital army that several political strategists call one of the most powerful political tools in the Democratic party. So far, eight national commercials—including one in Spanish—have aired, reaching more than 2 billion television viewers and more than 454 million people through social media.
