America Can No Longer Look Away”

(CHICAGO, January 20, 2018)—The following is a statement from Need to Impeach founder Tom Steyer, who today joined women’s rights and social justice advocates as a participant and speaker at the Chicago Women’s March:

“I’m proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with women in Chicago and across the country who are demanding true accountability from the people in power. An openly misogynist demagogue’s rise into the Oval Office magnified the rot of sexism that has destroyed lives and stifled potential in America for far too long. As millions of women across the country continue to organize, march, and call out this systemic oppression, America can no longer look away. These women are patriots, demanding that our country live up to its ideals of justice and equality for all. That includes holding our elected Democratic and Republican leaders accountable to protecting the well-being and safety of everyone in our country. If they will not begin impeachment proceedings, we will rise up and replace them at the voting booth with leaders who will.”

Steyer launched the Need to Impeach movement through television and social networking ads on October 20, 2017, calling on supporters to sign a petition. More than 4.2 million people have since signed the petition, creating a digital army of supporters that many political strategists call a formidable and powerful political tools.
