Tom Steyer: Trump’s SCOTUS nominee will “help further his lawlessness”
(SAN FRANCISCO, July 9, 2018)—Need to Impeach and NextGen America Founder Tom Steyer released the following statement ahead of Donald Trump’s anticipated nomination of a candidate to replace U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy:
“Donald Trump continues to prove that he is deeply unqualified to lead our nation and is incapable of nominating candidates to the U.S. Supreme Court who will work for our best interests. His short list of candidates to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy is composed of individuals who will help further his lawlessness by concocting arguments on behalf of his radical administration and its extremist supporters.
I call on our Democratic leaders to object if any these individuals are nominated. Their views about the environment, women’s rights, social justice, civil liberties, and access to healthcare are in total conflict with what the majority of people living in this country need. We deserve a fair and just judicial system that will not only serve the entire nation, but that will be unafraid to hold Trump accountable for his crimes.”
Steyer launched the Need to Impeach campaign on October 20, 2017 through national television and social media ads. More than 5.4 million people have since signed on to support the campaign, creating a digital army that several political strategists call one of the most powerful political tools in the Democratic Party. So far, 12 national commercials—including two in Spanish—have aired, reaching more than two billion television viewers and more than 454 million people through social media.
