The Ad, Running in the DC Market, Targets Congressional Leaders Who Are Stalling on Impeachment and Urges Them to Act Now

(WASHINGTON, D.C., Jan. 31, 2019)Need to Impeach will begin airing a new television ad today in the Washington, D.C. market to target members of Congress and demand that they start impeachment proceedings immediately so the truth about Donald Trump’s “corruption, abuse of power, and obstruction of justice” can finally come out.

The new 30-second ad — which can be seen here — comes two days after Need to Impeach Founder Tom Steyer announced “Operation Accountability,” a new initiative aimed at organizing millions of impeachment supporters across the country, but with an emphasis on those residing in districts held by U.S. House members who chair key investigative and oversight committees.

“Donald Trump is our nation’s biggest crisis and it’s going to get worse if he’s not removed from office,” said Steyer. “Everyday, more evidence emerges about how far he will go to deceive the American public in covering up his lawless activities. Our new ad represents the will of millions of Americans who are demanding immediate action from their representatives to start impeachment hearings and uncover the truth about this reckless and out-of-control president.”

With the background of news stories about Trump’s presidency unraveling out of control, the ad — the 18th since Need to Impeach’s launch in October 2017 — highlights how Trump’s deceit, lawlessness, and lies are hurting the country and urges Congress “to gather and preserve evidence to make sure the American people finally get the truth.”

Earlier this week, Need to Impeach brought together about 300 impeachment supporters for a  two-day training and advocacy summit that concluded with participants hand delivering Articles of Impeachment to their member of Congress. During the Summit, Steyer also announced Operation Accountability, which is being launched in Democratic House leadership districts, starting with Reps. Richard Neal (MA-01), Jerrold Nadler (NY-10), and Elijah Cummings (MD-07). In targeted districts, Operation Accountability will include a dedicated paid staff person, door-to-door canvassing, a comprehensive media campaign that includes TV, digital, and direct mail, and town halls.

Steyer launched Need to Impeach on October 20, 2017, with an initial $40 million investment to raise the voices of people across the country who were angered by Trump’s presidency and policies. Earlier this month, Steyer committed an additional $40 million in 2019 toward impeaching Trump.
