Uptick in support comes as new TV ad highlighting Trump’s criminality and corruption

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — This week, nine members of Congress announced that they support beginning impeachment proceedings to demand accountability for Donald Trump’s growing record of lawlessness. Impeachment momentum continues to gain traction, and following the new announcements this week, a total of 75 members of Congress now support at least starting an impeachment inquiry.

“Donald Trump has broken his oath to the American people and the Constitution, but Congress has failed to pursue real accountability. If obstruction of justice and taking payments from foreign governments is not enough to impeach and remove a dangerous president, how can we expect our democracy to hold any elected official accountable?” said Need to Impeach founder Tom Steyer. “The president undermines our democratic institutions every day, and It is the duty of our representatives in Congress to use the tools at their disposal to follow the facts and stand up for our values.”

The momentum behind impeachment continues to grow, and this week:

  • Nine more members of Congress publicly support the effort to begin an impeachment inquiry, including Yvette Clarke (NY-09), Carolyn Maloney (NY-12) Brian Higgins (NY-26), Andy Levin (MI-09), Katie Porter (CA-45), Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Sean Casten (IL-06), Tony Cárdenas (CA-29) and Nydia Velazquez (NY-07).
  • According to a new Politico poll, over two-thirds of Democratic voters believe Congress should launch impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump, an 8% increase among Democrats compared to the same question asked in an April survey. A recent Fox News poll of registered voters found that 50% supported impeaching the president.
  • Two days after Donald Trump launched his reelection campaign, Need to Impeach launched a new six-figure ad campaign highlighting Donald Trump’s criminal behavior and calling out political leaders on both sides of the aisle for their unwillingness to hold the president accountable for his lawlessness. The new ad highlights the litany of crimes Trump committed, including his recent admission to ABC News that he would break campaign finance law and take information from foreign governments for his reelection campaign.
