Five more members of Congress announced their support for an impeachment inquiry this week

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — This week, the impeachment movement continued to grow on Capitol Hill, with five more members of Congress announcing their support for beginning impeachment proceedings to hold Donald Trump accountable, bringing the number of Congress Members that support impeachment up to 62.

Every day that we fail to start impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump is an affront to democratic accountability and the rule of law. But momentum is on the side of impeachment, and members of Congress are starting to realize that giving Donald Trump a license to lie, cheat, and abandon the limitations of power that characterize our democracy is a failure of moral leadership and a betrayal of their oath of office,” said Need to Impeach founder Tom Steyer. “The American people are demanding action and Democrats like Joyce Beatty and Lloyd Doggett have answered that call, and their leadership should serve as a model to the rest of Washington, D.C..”

Momentum behind impeachment continued to grow this past week:

  • Five members of the House voiced their support for impeachment in partialresponse to consistent constituent pressure, including Joyce Beatty (OH-13), David Price (NC-04), Nanette Barragan (CA-44), Lloyd Doggett (TX-53), and Rep. Tim Ryan (OH-13)

  • Three Democratic Presidential Nominees voiced their support of impeachment, including Sen. Bernie SandersJohn Hickenlooper, and Rep. Tim Ryan

  • At the 2019 California Democratic Party Convention in San Francisco, Tom Steyer challenged Speaker Pelosi and Democratic leaders to take a stand against Donald Trump’s assault on democracy by beginning impeachment proceedings immediately. During Pelosi’s speech, members of the audience waved Need to Impeach signs and repeatedly shouted “Impeach!”
