Steyer to discuss Donald Trump offenses against our country and demand local Congressmembers support Rep. Al Green’s Impeachment Resolution

(ATLANTA, April 9, 2018)—Need to Impeach Founder Tom Steyer is bringing the case to remove Donald Trump from office to Georgia where he will host a town hall—one of 30 as part of his national town hall series—in Atlanta on April 16.

Steyer is holding the town hall series, which kicked off last month with events in Ohio and the Washington, DC area, to make the patriotic case to Democrats, Independents, and Republicans about the need for impeachment, and to question why elected leaders in California and across the country ignore the clear mandate from their constituents.

Four out of the 15 Congressional districts in Georgia are held by Democrats, yet two of them—Sanford Bishop (Albany) and Hank Johnson (Lithonia)—voted against Representative Al Green’s (TX – 09) impeachment resolution earlier this year. Representatives who voted for the resolution are John Lewis (Atlanta) and David Scott (Atlanta).

“Our political system has a huge problem telling basic truths,” said Steyer. “With every day that goes by, Donald Trump destroys our democracy and we need strong leaders who aren’t afraid to stand up against him and represent the will of the people who put them in office. Those who condemn Trump but don’t do anything concrete to back their words with action are enabling the damage he is inflicting. Two Congressmembers in Georgia have repeatedly chosen to go against their constituents’ wishes by voting no on impeachment. The people deserve elected leaders who refuse to back down on our shared principles, and we will ensure their voices are heard.”

Steyer launched the Need to Impeach campaign on October 20, 2017 through national television and social media ads. More than 5.1 million people have since signed on to support the campaign, creating a digital army that several political strategists call one of the most powerful political tools in the Democratic party. So far, seven national commercials—including one in Spanish—have aired, reaching more than 2-billion television viewers and more than 454 million people through social media.
