(SAN FRANCISCO, June 8, 2018)—Tom Steyer’s Need to Impeach campaign will begin airing a new series of national television ads today featuring American patriots who Steyer has met through his nationwide town hall tour. The first three ads in the series—filmed at Need to Impeach town halls in Denver, Colo., Columbia, S.C., and Minneapolis, Minn.—feature people outraged by Donald Trump’s lawlessness and want Congress to immediately start impeachment proceedings.

The Denver town hall ad can be seen here; the Columbia ad here and the Minneapolis ad here.

“We’ve met thousands of people across the country who are angered by Donald Trump’s lawlessness and his total disregard for our democracy,” said Need to Impeach Spokesperson Erik Olvera. “These ads lift up the voices of everyday people who are demanding that members of Congress uphold their constitutional oath to protect our country and do the job they were elected to do. Their time to act is now, before Trump does further damage to our nation.”

In one ad, you hear from a woman who attended the Denver town hall and asked: “Why hasn’t Congress started impeachment proceedings given what we know and they probably know much more?” Steyer responded that if you speak to Democratic and Republican members of Congress privately, they will acknowledge that Trump is a reckless, dangerous, and lawless president, but “political safety is what is driving them to sweep it under the rug.”

Steyer has hosted town halls in Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; New York City; Columbus, Ohio; Cincinnati; Largo, Md.; Arlington, Va.; Oakland, Calif.; Atlanta; Orlando, Fla.; Des Moines, Iowa; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Denver, Colo.; Charlotte, N.C.; Columbia, S.C.; and Minneapolis, Minn. At each event, Steyer not only makes the patriotic case to Democrats, Independents, and Republicans about the need to impeach Trump, but also hears the frustration and anger expressed by the hundreds of people that attend each of these town halls.

Steyer launched the Need to Impeach campaign on October 20, 2017 through national television and social media ads. Nearly 5.4 million people have since signed on to support the campaign, creating a digital army that several political strategists call one of the most powerful political tools in the Democratic Party. Nine other national commercials—including one in Spanish—have aired, reaching more than two billion television viewers and more than 454 million people through social media.
