As of the end of May, U.S. authorities had separated nearly 2,000 migrant children from their families at the border. That’s nearly 50 kids being torn away from their parents every day, and this number is only growing.
You have a chance to help reunite these children with their families. The Keep Families Together Act would stop the Department of Homeland Security from separating children from their parents at the border and hold the department to greater accountability. Every Democrat in the Senate has endorsed the bill, but even if we can convince two Republicans to do the right thing, there’s still the question of whether the bill will even get a vote in the Senate.
President Donald Trump and his team — including Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen — have enacted a “zero tolerance” policy to criminally prosecute anyone they think has crossed the border illegally, even families seeking asylum. This has led to children being sent to foster care or detention facilities, sometimes even put in cages. Conditions are grim.
You can help reverse this inhumane policy. Call your Senators. If they already support the Keep Families Together Act, tell them to convince two of their Republican colleagues, then do anything and everything in their power to force a vote. If they don’t yet support the bill, explain to them why letting families stay together is more important than kowtowing to Trump.
