Donald Trump has railed against China in the past, but it turns out that was all talk. On May 13, Trump tweeted:
President Xi of China, and I, are working together to give massive Chinese phone company, ZTE, a way to get back into business, fast. Too many jobs in China lost. Commerce Department has been instructed to get it done!

The U.S. has repeatedly sanctioned ZTE, and the heads of the FBI, CIA, and NSA think it might be using its technology to spy on Americans.
