As a businessman, Donald Trump wanted bribery to be legal. He frequently railed against the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). Passed after Watergate, FCPA made it illegal for Americans to bribe foreign officials.
According to Trump,
What are we prosecuting people to keep China honest? Now every other country goes into these places and they do what they have to do. It’s a horrible law, and it should be changed. I mean, we’re like the policemen for the world, and it’s ridiculous.
He has advocated for bribery. And has complained that it’s illegal.
“It puts us at a huge disadvantage,” Trump said.
