Watch: “Law and order” Trump is at war with law enforcement agencies
With President Trump’s tweets demanding the Justice Department to look into possible FBI infiltration or surveillance of his campaign for political purposes, Rod Rosenstein’s job once again appears to be in jeopardy.
As the deputy attorney general, Rosenstein oversees Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation since Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself and Rosenstein is the next highest-ranked DOJ official.
The Justice Department is dangerously understaffed. It does not have a deep bench of Senate-confirmed officials behind Rosenstein to oversee the investigation if Rosenstein get fired or resigns.
Investigations
Special Counsel Robert Mueller is moving forward with the investigation into possible coordination between Donald Trump’s campaign and the Russian government during the 2016 election, while Congress’ investigations vary in their direction and effectiveness.
